When you hear about Mexico City, the last thing you think of is vegan food. As many of you, I was a bit nervous about finding vegan options in the capital of Mexico. After all, Mexico is a meat country.
I’m glad to report that it is quite the oposite, and the vegan options are growing by the minute. We were shocked to find many options, including vegan street tacos!
Here is a list of the places we visited while we were there, and we absolutely loved. Don’t forget to check my other vegan city guides to Toronto, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Boston,l and NYC.
Mexico City vegan restaurants were not only up to western standards, in terms of location and cleanliness, but the decor, quality of food and taste, was really good!

A VEGAN GUIDE TO MEXICO CITY
PULPA AMOR
More of your typical trendy NYC health bar. Full of smoothies, golden lattes and activated charcoal waffles. All painted in pink, with an open feel to it, but at a much cheaper price.
You can’t go to Pulpa Amor without trying their activated charcoal waffles and one of their acai bowls.
MORA MORA
Another must if you are into acai bowls. People swear that they are the best at making them, and well, I kind of agree.
They tend to be next to a spin studio or gym, making them the best recovery food, and cooling system in a hot summer day (or any day) in Mexico.
Mora Mora slogan is “no bullshit, just clean” so expect all organic, non processed ingredients. Our favorites were the ‘Acai ABC’ and ‘Acai AMM’
LOS LOOSERS
If you are looking for an experience restaurant, Los Loosers is the one. A mix of Asian and Mexican food, los loosers will blow your mind.
Their menu is full of traditional Mexican street food, like tlayudas, and traditional Mexican food like agua Chile and chiles rellenos, and ramen- weird but cool? – You can feel the difference in the quality of the food and ingredients.
Everything is made in the moment, so I recommend sharing plates instead of choosing your own, otherwise you might end up waiting for a while before your plate comes.
Our favorites were the Tlayudas, the Huarache, and the Korean Taco. The dessert was the bomb, but they change the dessert menu every week, so you might not get the same as me. Either way, I bet whatever you have will be really good!
LA GATORTA
You can’t go to Mexico City without experiencing street food, and La Gatorta made the experience possible by making all vegan tacos. You will legit stand on the street while you enjoy some Mexican delicatessen.
We personally loved the tacos al pastor, but people seemed to love the tortas. Bring cash and an empty stomach, cause the tacos are big!
POR SIEMPRE VEGAN TACOS
Por siempre vegan tacos is another street taco stand that is super popular in the Roma area. We went on a Friday night and had to wait 10-15 mins to order and about 30-35 to get our order.
I got a gringa, which is a quesadilla with “meat” in it, and Matt got a few different fillings on it’s tacos. Out of all of them, I think the pastor tacos are the best, the cheese is ‘meh’ so don’t bother asking for a quesadilla, but definitely try other taco fillings, they all looked really good.
Come with time and cash! No credit cards accepted. Oh and try the “agua fresca” – it changes every week but it is delicious!
THE SANO
The Sano it is not completely vegan but has really good vegan options for breakfast and brunch. Make sure you tell the staff that you want the vegan version of what you are getting though, otherwise they will make it ‘regular’ – We loved the protein waffles and the mushroom sandwich.
FOREVER VEGANO
Forever Vegano is a favorite of many, forever vegano creates Mexican favorites into healthier vegan options. The roma location is very hip and cute, some tables offer seating on the floor with some cushions.
We recommend the Forever Salad and the setas en mole, and a side of sauce ( mix of kombucha, coconut water, lime, and sea salt).
Roma location Setas en mole
There are plenty more restaurants that we didn’t get to try, but we hope to add more to the list in a few months.
