I have lived in Boston for 4 years now, and been vegan a bit over two. Believe me, I have tried *everything* Boston has to ofter. Nearly everything to be honest, some restaurants aren’t actually in Boston but a few miles away, and well, I don’t drive. So yeah, we will keep it to options that are close to public transport.
In this guide you will find restaurants that are closer to Boston or in Boston that are 100% vegan and vegetarian, and tons of others that have vegan options. I know that some people say it’s hard to be vegan in Boston, but to be honest, it is pretty easy. And you are probably eating at this places already.
I will categorize the options by “all vegan/vegetarian” and “Has options” – will also include their address, and if there’s more than one location. I have strong feelings for some, and not so much for others, but if you want to see my favorites clic here. If not, keep reading!
PS: If I’m missing some, sorry! I’m trying to keep it to greater Boston, but if you know of any other please let me know in the comments and I will add it to the list.
PS2: They are not in any specific order.
VEGGIE GALAXY
By far my ultimate favorite vegan restaurant in Boston. I’ve said it many times and on my last vegan restaurant review, and I will say it again. It is DAMN GOOD . Has this old American diner vibes, the staff is the nicest humans, the food is super yummy, and the prices are fare. It is vegetarian, but EVERYTHING can be made vegan.
The menu goes from pancakes, scramble tofu eggs, to their amazing burgers and blue plates (that change every week). All day everyday breakfast, and incredible cakes and local ice cream: Fomu.
Located at: 450 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139
WHOLE HEART PROVISIONS
It has all my heart. Every time I go I fell in love more and more. You can make your own bowl, or get a signature one. It doesn’t matter, everything is amazing. It is one of those places where everything is just good, an it doesn’t say vegan anywhere, so it is not in your face (kinda nice), and it doesn’t try to sell “fake meats” and use real food instead.
Located at: 487 Cambridge St, Allston, MA. and 298 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA.
TACO PARTY
I have been once, and it was great. I give them an A for effort into recreating real street Mexican food, like tortas and tacos. But Mexican food is hard to re-create I have to say, however, it was pretty tasty.
Located: 711 Broadway Somerville MA 02144
LIFE ALIVE CAFE
Mostly on the healthy side of things, but still very tasty. Their bowls are a mix of fresh and cooked, and the dressings are from another planet, specially their ginger miso one. They offer from smoothies, to bowls, to sandwiches and wraps. Anything you’d like. Plus their desserts are to die for.
Located: 765 Mass Ave., Cambridge MA. But they also have locations in Salem, Lowell and Brookline. Edit: I have moved since I made this list, but life alive has more locations now.
EAT BY CHLOE
Anything American style food you’d love, made vegan and better. The taco bowl or the sweet potato fries will win your heart, along the beet ketchup and chipotle alioli. Oh and the desserts, I could go on and on.
Located at SEAPORT: 107 Seaport Blvd Boston, MA 02210 and FENWAY: 100 Van Ness Street Boston, MA 02215
MY THAI VEGAN CAFE
Right in the heart of china town, My Thai Vegan Cafe has all the asian comfort food made vegan. You can find your typical stir fries, noodles and soups, teas and desserts. You can’t go wrong with any dish. Don’t expect anything fancy, but is all good, because the curry will be, oh so worth it.
Located: 3 Beach St, Boston, MA 02111
CLOVER FOOD LAB
Mediterranean inspired food, with a lot of character. They are primarily vegetarian, but they do have good vegan options. There’s breakfast, lunch/dinner, coffee, sweets, only uses local produce…can it get any better? I personally love the chickpea fritter, is oily, crunchy, messy and perfect hangover food. Or just perfect food. Some locations (tons in Cambridge) also has beer on tap.
Located: There’s 12 locations, so just go here.
VEGGIE CRUST
Oh my dear Veggie Crust. I could write you a long love letter and send it to Verona in hopes Juliette hear my prayers of more locations. VEGAN Pizza taken to another level. It is amazing because is vegan, but it is just amazing. Even if you are not vegan, pizza is pizza, and this one is delicious. There’s no classic boring ones, all of them are amazing combos. You might think coconut corn pizza is weird but once you tried it you will be a fan.
Located: 445 Somerville Ave, Somerville, MA 02145 and 8 Cypress St, Brookline, MA 02445
TRUE BISTRO
All plant-based high-end restaurants. It is worth every penny my bank account has. Hands down the best high-end vegan restaurant in Boston. I know I said a lot, but this one is my favorite one. Every dish is inspired by a different culture, and being really honest here, everything is really good. I am not sure if they still have it (couldn’t see it on their website), but the mole (a Mexican sauce) was as good as my grandma’s. Edit: due to Covid 19 this restaurant has been permanently closed. RIP 🙁
Located: Teele Square, 1153 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02144.
CUONG’S VEGAN SANDWICHES
I’m pretty sure is My Thai Vegan Cafe brother, but I might be wrong. I haven’t tried it to be honest, but Matt said it was good. Same as My Thai Vegan Cafe, has all your comfort Asian food and bubble teas, plus some sandwiches, made vegan.
Located: 5 Beach St, Boston, MA 02111
GRASSHOPER
Haven’t been so I have no clue, but I have heard good things!
Located: 1 N Beacon St, Allston, MA 02134
VO2 VEGAN CAFE
Haven’t been either, but have also heard good things! Oh it has a yoga studio, or the yoga studio has the cafe. Either way, that’s pretty cool.
Located: 1001 Mass Ave – Cambridge, MA
FOMU
All vegan ice cream. Yes, you read well. Not only is vegan and is in Boston, but it is creamy and delicious. They have cakes, pastry, toppings, all made from scratch with fresh, plant-based, minimally-processed ingredients. Can I get a HELL YEAH?
There’s 3 permanent locations, a pop up in Back bay, but can find it in most Boston Whole Foods and some restaurants like Veggie Galaxy and My Thai Vegan Cafe.
Located: Go here to find your FoMu
COCOBEET
Smoothies, juices, waffles, kale chips, anything under the sun. Everything is organic, raw, gluten free, non-GMO, non-HPP, and locally sourced. Sounds like a trailer from an LA movie, but I swear is good, really really good. The smoothies are bottled before hand so you avoid the long lines, making it very convenient to grab and go.
Located: 100 City Hall Plaza Boston, MA 02108 and 57 Central st. Wellesley, MA 02482
JUICE PRESS
Juice and smoothie bar, Juice Press also has it all. Smoothies are made in front of you, and has tons of options, from protein packed ones to refreshing ones. It has also other options like breakfast oats, salads, snacks, desserts and even probiotics. Is also all organic, which I love.
Located: You can find it 3 different Equinox, and other 3 front stores. Go here for all addresses.
THE JUICERY
Really good smoothies, salads, juices, and more. Is 99% vegan, but they do animal products for those who want them. I love their chickpea salad, and pretty much every smoothie I had. They also use compostable cups, lids and straws!
Located: North End, 58 Salem Street. But they have tons of locations around New England, go here for details.
JUICY GREENS
A very new smoothie coffee bar style vibe in Jamaica Plain. They offer fresh cold-pressed juices and superfoods smoothies, hot coffee and espresso, savory plant-based combinations, like avocado toasts and pupusas. Worth the visit!
Located: 61 South St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
DIG INN
Casual healthy fast-food restaurant. You can build your own bowl or pick from their menu. They usually have a few vegan “market sides” options, and they always have tofu as option for “protein” – all the dressings are vegan. They have matcha and coffee on mostly all of their locations, and only nut milk.
Located: Back Bay, Downtown Crossing and the Prudential center. Go here for the full details.
SWEETGREEN
Simple, seasonal, healthy salads and grain bowls made in-house from scratch, using whole produce delivered that morning. You can get a bowl from their menu (only 2-3 options depending on the season), or build your own bowl. Almost all of their dressings are vegan, but you can always choose lemon juice or avocado.
Located: Tons of locations so I will just live the link here.
BGOOD
Burgers, salads and bowls sourced from local ingredients. Menu’s change depending on location, which is pretty cool to me. There’s bunch of vegan options, almost every salad is vegan, or made vegan, they also have veggie burgers, sides and smoothies.
Located: tons of locations, go here for the details.
HONEY GROW / MINI GROW
Asian inspired fast casual restaurant. A couple options on their menu but it also has the option to build your own bowl. Very tasty noodle and curry bowls, tofu as “protein” option and a few vegan dressings. Their Red Coconut Curry is my personal Favorite.
Located: Back bay, Downtown, Fenway and Seaport. Go here for the details.
BON ME
Vietnamese inspired food that started as a truck and has expanded all around Boston. Every noodle salad can be made vegan, and almost all dressings are vegan as well. They also have tofu as “protein” option.
Located: A few, go here for details.
GRAIN MAKER
Southeast Asian inspired restaurant, Grainmaker makes fast-casual food look GOOD! Their Chef curry is their signature dish, but you can build your own bowl. Any dish can be made vegan, and almost all the sides are vegan as well. The sticky rice is perfect as dessert.
Located: 91 Summer St. Boston, MA 02110
NOODLE LAB
As the name says, is a noodle restaurant. They have one noodle bowl vegan option on their menu, but they also give you the option to build your own. For sides, only the veggie gyozas are vegan. But they are worth it!
Located: Inside Boston Public Market: 100 Hanover Street.
WAGAMAMA
Originally from the UK, Wagamama is an Asian inspired restaurant. It has a big Japanese influence, and recently launched a full vegan menu. Yep, more then one option. They have a lot of options, all of them REALLY GOOD. I went to their vegan menu launch and got to try everything, literally, so yes, everything is good. My favorite is the Kare Boruso Ramen. Full vegan menu here. EDIT: Now they offer Gaz Oakley “vegan egg”.
Located: Seaport, 100 northern avenue, Boston, ma 02210. Quincy Market and Prudential Center (800 boylston street, store 117)
ALL STAR PIZZA BAR
Brick oven pizzeria. A few really good (a bit pricey) vegan options. They use Daiya cheese, and ingredients like jackfruit and almond milk béchame. Very fancy pizza (which I am not complaining). I personally love the Big Jerk one.

Another brick oven pizzeria. Oath only uses ingredients that have been sustainably sourced. They have vegan cheese that can sub on any pizza, and tons of vegetable options.
Located: A lot of locations, so I will leave the link here.
BLAZE PIZZA
Fast-Fire’d Custom Built Artisanal Pizzas. Pretty much build your own pizza. They offer vegan cheese and even to change gloves so there’s no cross contamination (LOVE THIS). You can pick a pizza from their menu and just sub for vegan cheese, or build your own. They are REALLY GOOD!

Located: Fenway 92 Peterborough St, Boston MA 02215 + Brighton 2197 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton MA 02135
UNION SQUARE DONUTS
Best vegan donuts in Boston, hands down. They have 4 options on their menu, but sometimes they have some extra flavors. My favorite is Raspberry Lime Rickey.
Located: A few locations, go here for details.
ZUMES COFFEE HOUSE
Obviously every other coffee shop that offers nut milk would be considered “vegan” BUT Zumes goes beyond the nut milk, they have vegan burritos that are yummy, plus their coffee is really good and they caught on the oat milk trend.
Located: 221 Main St, Charlestown, MA 02129
JUGOS
Smoothie bar with bunch of options like sweet potato toast and amazing smoothie bowls. Is no secret that I love them. All the smoothies and smoothie bowls are vegan, and most sides are too.

OTHER SMOOTHIE PLACES THAT PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING IS VEGAN:
PRESSED JUICERY
MOTHER JUICE
BEACON BLEND
As you might notice, a lot of Boston fast-casual restaurants offer options, but we do have a lot of really good FULL PLANT-BASED/ VEGAN restaurants.
I want to know, have you been to any of them, and which one is your favorite?
